The Douro region is demarcated region to the oldest wine producers in the world. The Alto Douro Wine Region is part of a small elite classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, for its natural beauty and rich heritage. It is the meeting of the soil qualities, characteristics favorable climate and the hard work of the man who produces this unique wine.
The grapes come from various plots planted on land of shale and arranged in terraces, all located in the Casal de Loivos village. All of the plots belonging to the family for several generations, consists of 5 ha of vines aged 50 years and 12 ha planted 15 years ago. Older plots have mixture of traditional varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca, Tinta Francisca and also Sousão, Viosinho, Rabigato, Gouveio and Syria.
The harvest took place in early October. The grapes were harvested by hand, in small boxes of 18 kg, according to a careful selection of the best grapes in the vineyard. The grapes were fully destemmed and immediately pressed in a pneumatic press. The tear wort was cooled and decanted low temperature for 24h. Fermentation in stainless steel tank with controlled temperature of about 16 ° C for 3 weeks. Aged only in stainless steel to preserve all the fresh fruit aromas.
