Wine has always been in his blood. His grandparents were producers and his older brother was a winemaker. Perhaps, even before he knew it, his destiny as an oenologist and wine producer had already been mapped out for him.
A single-varietal of the most important red varietal in Portugal, native to Dão. The grapes come from one single vineyard, facing North, at 400 meters in the Serra da Estrela sub-region. The vines are around 35 years old.
Vintage of 2019
This vintage year started with a dry winter. Then a mild spring season with a slight above average rainfall. Summer brought very cool mornings and very warm days. The red wine harvest started in late September and the wines showed excellent development in the cellar, reflecting a great vintage year.
Careful hand sorting, gentle de-stemming, then transferred to small, open-top tanks. Very long first pump-over (4 hours). The fermentation started with native yeast and controlled temperature. Very gentle pump-overs 3 times per day. Gentle Vertical pressing. Malolactic fermentation and aging done in stainless steel. The aging is 12 months in stainless steel.
