There are callings that arise with the immeasurable clarity of the destiny. So, it was the calling of Micael Baptista, in charge of the family’s vines at Quinta da Ramalhosa. In the year of 2008, while an immense economic crisis was affecting the European continent, Micael succumbed to the discouragement of his father, who was willing to let go of the old vines by not being able to make a profit out of them.
With a degree in Agricultural Production, Micael invoked the scrolls, just like someone truly passionate would, of his beloved land. Moved by his family vision and dreams, he took charge of his land’s strains. His passion for the terroir arised the disbelieve on elaborate and complex productions.
“The wine is produced on the vineyard”, says he, over and over again. The vineyard includes over 15 different grape varieties, for we can guess the organoleptic immensity of these productions. Following the nature’s blend and making exclusive use of traditional methods, came such varieties as Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Jaen, Tinta Pinheiro, Encruzado, Rabo de Ovelha, Malvasia Fina and a lot more. With such diversity, a small yet stimulating project was brought to life counting with a portfolio that has conquered the aficionados.
These unexpected, vibrating wines, holders of an irresolvable freshness, make the Dão’s soul. To Micael, these wines are the homage to his family, his region and the 50-year-old vines that witnessed his birth. To us, all of the above are good reasons to celebrate the immortality and the elegance of our Burgundy, which will always have a special place, for it is so Portuguese.
